You are right about depth. Short notes run the risk of removing context and connections from longer pieces. It seems like the atomic method is designed for people who want to write quick blog posts.

Some important features haven't been explored like Google search and semantics scholars database integration.

I just posted the following comment on your video dedicated to Tasks plugin, but this is so relevant here: Without reminders on mobile, task management is still pointless in Obsidian... To be able to trust your task (life) management tool, we need to know that it will remind us of important things we plan on doing. Without it, what's the point? I'm so with you on removing the titles "task" "project" "event" - just call everything an "item" and let us do whatever we want with it. Obsidian is close in this approach, but again - without mobile reminders, I can't trust it for my "items who I need to be reminded of"

I have been using mendeley since the beginning of my undergrad so I have a lot of sources in there. I was so annoyed when they removed the app from iPad so have been toying with the idea of moving to Zotero ever since. However the thought of moving all my sources over now I’m at the end of my post grad filled me with dread. After watching this video and seeing just how much easier it would make my life, I have decided it’s worth the effort. Thanks so much for sharing. Can’t wait to implement this new system into my current workflow 🙌🏼

I'm really struggling to get the multiple items in an 'ObjectList' to appear correctly in DataViewJS. I can manage to get the first item, but not all items appearing in a DataViewJS cell. Been hunting for hours for a way to handle ObjectLists in DataviewJS correctly. Head spinning.

What's the difference between "points" and "sources"?

I'm now exploring new for me theories of learning. I find I feel it's rather arrogant to atomise the ideas in a theory in small one concept notes. A theory already made connections between its ideas. I want to capture those. My goal is to understand them first and for that I need keep their concepts and ideas together. So I summarise. Developing the expertise for me is a going back and forth between talking to people or trying out something in my teaching practice and the theory I have summarised. Then I start to write a bit about what I want to write about, structured in questions I try to answer. These are changing quite a lot as my understanding grows. Therefore I agree with there being a point to a note. But I also think the point will change because understanding deepens.

A plugin to complicate Obsidian even further ! There’s no time left to actually do something useful - like ACTUALLY TAKING NOTES 🙄

I'm still at the "copy/paste once you get it to work" state. But for the first time I finally got Dataview to work in ways I can depend on. Thank you.

Amazing comparison video. I am literally just that one guy that wonders why the heck people do something worse than something that already exists. It just wastes our time for having to watch comparison videos and migrations. Logseq wasted more time then it saved.

I don't think Justin Sung ever intended for you to use mind maps to capture stuff you need to remember years later. Because mind maps don't make relationships explicit, they force you to remember and know all the relationships, which makes them a good studying exercise. This property also makes them horrendous for long-term information storage.

@Danny, finally this 2hrs confirmed my suspension that KISS is mush much better all the Classed / WorkSpace / Templater, is not essential.. may be for use case but not for everyday. btw in you past video "the Metadata Menu" is used a lot, any particular reason, why you stopped using it, regularly?? rgds Srikanth Kamath

If you want visual notes you should absolutely try Excalidraw in Obsidian, I have not found any replacement for it.

Stop using tags and find your notes using the search feature. Search doesn't get stale, nor need maintenance, nor up-front organization. I never stare at a document deciding which tags it needs. I already decided which words it needs -- that should do it (and it does if you use search). You can try it now at no cost to you.

@Danny Great TuT buddy, after your tut, just supercharged my Obsidian Notes.. I think your hinderance to mind maps relates to your hinderance to atomic notes, not because they are similar, but because they work well together. Personally, I need the visual connect to easily see hierarchies and possibilities which I’ve created. I agree that canvas has many flaws, especially, as you point out, note changes and connections made in canvas are not reflected in the original notes and if you create original notes in canvas, you need to go back and add the connections…links. Scrintal is another worthy candidate, however, I hate to give up Obsidian’s community contributions! Excalidraw, and other infinite canvas software outside of Obsidian, allow for markdown export. I would imagine still needing to add links though.

the amount of nails you hit on the head here is insane. this video came at me at the best time for some reason. I'm getting absolutely insane and stressed from my obsidian app. Exactly for the reasons that you are saying. Mindmaps get big and crazy Canvas get big and crazy Dataviews get big and crazy And none of them allow some way to zoom out or in or bring back calmness. I get almost physically ill now when i open up my obsidian, because it just turned into a cleaning job in a sense instead of a way to organize my thoughts and data.

hello thanx for good information i have a question that would be great if you answer so i have a image property and in front of that property i put thd image link in the attachmet folder like this --- image: [[imageone.png]] --- and i want to have a column in DBfolder that showes that image but it showes the link to that image i tried adding ! to the image property so its like this image: ![[imageone.png]] and this works but can i make it that i dont use that "!" and it still work
